CPB #8

Throughout the duration of reading The Beetle by Richard Marsh, I can see the further connection of Stephen King’s It and how it would be a link between the two novels. As the novel progresses, we see the similarities between the novels. The shapeshifting villain who is a harbringer of chaos and idolizes a specific person’s greatest fear. The use of hypnotic and and shape shifting abilities allows the fear individuals to raise. Not only does the beetle attack your physical body but also the mental battles a human faces. The beetle gave the initial reaction of this is an entity to be feared with the initial attack. I think what makes this creature so different than monsters like Dracula, or the psychological fears of Jane Eyre is that this Beetle has a purpose for the chaos it is causing. I believe that it is acting in purpose of revenge and will not stop until that revenge is achieved. Compared to Dracula, the Beetle has the initial far or creep factor by its appearance. Unlike people, there is not much that a beetle can do to assist someone, so the constant perseverance of a creature like a beetle is a terrifying thought and must have a specific motive.
